Eco-Friendly Package
-
The name of the game here was environmental impact. I looked at various packages for products on sale at my local supermarket to pick out something that was especially wastefully packaged.
Just remaking the package I chose — a MY SAN Graham cracker package — wasn’t my goal. I wanted to completely redo the package to not leave any waste behind whatsoever.
-
After considering my goals, I was drawn to the idea of a ‘camping pack’, since I associate graham crackers with s’mores and campfires. That gave me an aesthetic to aim for, and the goal was to make the package burn cleanly in a campfire without leaving any toxic smoke.
-
The package had a plaid front overlaid with a resealable sticker to keep the box from opening. Two layers of plastic were discarded: the outer layer bundling the package and the inner layer containing the graham crackers. The first was unnecessary and replaced with recycled paper packaging, and the second was substituted for wax paper.
The inks were water based and non toxic, and when the package folds open, you’re presented with a cozy wood-patterened platform to make your s’mores.
A pair of glamour shots of the tins amongst tiny trees and stacked on one another.
The final product, with one package open to show the interior.
The first prototype proof of concept.
